Corrine Granger, 88, of Mitchell, SD, died Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at her home under hospice care. Visitation will be Thursday, January 13, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel. A private family funeral service will be held. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Corrine Granger was born December 29, 1933, in Elk Point, SD to Cort and Isabelle (Burke) Simons. She was the youngest of 15 children. On May 14, 1952, she married the love of her life Eugene George Granger, and they moved to Mitchell, SD. They had ten children together, with one passing away as an infant.
Throughout her life, Corrine worked as a nurse’s aide at the Wilge Nursing Home, owned and operated A-1 Taxi Service with her husband and children, was a bus aide for the Mitchell School District, and most recently worked as a cook for the Salvation Army feeding those in need up until her retirement at the age of 85. Corrine was an active member of the Salvation Army and volunteered doing various things in the community but her proudest being able to ring bells at Christmas time over the last 60+ years.
She is survived by seven children, Almyra Granger of Mitchell, Carmen Granger of Mitchell, Ann (Rod) Miller of Mitchell, Lisa Granger (daughter-in-law), Mark (Julie) Granger of Alexandria, Jenell (Steve) Walz of Parkston, Mary (Doug) Newton of Mitchell, George Granger of Parkston; one granddaughter who she raised as her own, Kristy (Gary) Vobr of Mitchell; twenty grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; three sons, Bill, Bob, and one infant; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; nine sisters and five brothers; Almyra’s special friend, John Tyler; and Carmen’s special friend, Frank Zemina Jr.
