Obituary

Chad Bell, 42, formerly of Alexandria, SD, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023, due to an automobile accident while on a mountain biking adventure in Wyoming. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel

Chad Thomas Bell was born April 24, 1981, to Thomas and Deborah (Ruth) Bell in Mitchell, SD. Chad graduated from Hanson High School in 1999. He was a stand-out discus thrower and still holds the school record toss of 169’ 11”. He took these talents to the University of South Dakota, where he made a ton of friends, threw javelin and discus for the track team, and occasionally went to class.

He and his brother, Ryan, moved to Phoenix in 2002. Chad was employed using his stellar personality and musical chops to conduct karaoke nights at many bars around the city. He loved to belt out his favorite songs! In early 2003, he got called to a state of readiness for his other employer, the South Dakota National Guard. After being sent back home, Ryan urged him to move to Atlanta, where he was working for the Mattress Firm and knew Chad’s personality would lead him to a successful sales position. He was great at it!

While Chad did have some major struggles in life, he was always quick with a smile and one of the funniest people his close friends and family have ever known.

Chad was taken from Earth way too early, but his family feels at peace with where he left us. He was working on himself and making great progress. He will forever be loved by many.

Chad.... I'm just devastated. I only came across the news of your passing just now tonight when on a lark I decided to look for you seeing that I hadn't heard back from you on Facebook....it all makes sense now. Chad you're such a stand-out guy & I appreciated the time shared in Des Moines on your visits....I was hoping for another ransom DSM visit/appearance but now I understand why....

Condolences to the Bell family. While I, and others at Third City Church in Grand Island, only knew Chad for months, we are grieving. We witnessed such a positive transformation in a short time, his absence is shocking. He was a larger than life personality possessed with humility, a sense of humor, and compassion for others; especially his brothers in arms at the VA. We were blessed to know Chad. We all would’ve liked to know him better. Good bless!

I had only known Chad the last couple of months working here in Grand Island at the VA. Nice as all can be. I was looking forward to him gaining employment here as he would've been a great team member. He had talked about fond memories growning up and playing sports. We all enjoyed his comical personality and enthusiasm. May he rest in peace and prayers for the family. Lord have mercy.

Tom, Deb, and Ryan, I am so sorry to read of Chad's passing. It seems like yesterday when we would watch he and Jeff Wenande-Bell scour the shores of Lake Hanson for frogs and turtles. They were joined at the hip in those happy days. May the Good Lord grant Chad peace and happiness in the next dimension, and may you find comfort and peace in your memories and faith. We all get there someday.

One of my great childhood friends. We lost touch a long time ago when our families went different directions like many do. I often think back to those times as kids though and our weekend "expeditions" on Lake Hansen. Those memories will live on forever. My thoughts and prayers are with the Bell family.
