Carol Schmidt Goehring, 88, of Mitchell, SD, died Friday, September 15, 2023, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 20, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Delmont, SD. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7:00 PM at the church with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Carol June Ebright was born on June 7, 1935 near Delmont, SD to Frances and Lester Ebright. She was baptized at Congregational Church of Armour, SD on April 12, 1936. She grew up on a farm in Delmont. She attended Dakota Wesleyan University for one year before marrying Don Schmidt on October 31, 1954. They ran a dairy farm as they raised their four children. Don passed away November 18, 1986. Two years later, Carol sold the farm and moved to Mitchell, SD. She worked as a cook at a daycare, before transitioning to the deli section at Randall’s and Coborn’s. She married Reinhold Goehring in February of 1990.

Carol enjoyed bowling, golf, square dancing, playing games (especially cards and bingo), cooking, bible study, attending church, and visiting with family. She could often be found in front of her television on game days, cheering on her favorite team, the Minnesota Twins. Carol had a big sweet tooth, and could frequently be heard asking if her visitors were hungry.

Carol is survived by her children, Ron Schmidt, Jim (Myla) Schmidt, Cheri (Greg) Godfrey, and Kent (Brenda) Schmidt; grandchildren: Paul Schmidt, Melissa Wenck, Danielle Blech, Leslie McWhirter, Ryan Schmidt, Jason Schmidt, Kasey Gastonguay, and Ethan Goehring; brother, Marvin Ebright; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Don; husband, Reinhold; and daughter-in-law, Julie.
