Obituary

Carol Mackey, 70, of Mitchell, SD, peacefully lost her battle with cancer Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at her home surrounded by family in Mitchell. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 22, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Carol Sue Wagaman was born on January 31, 1951, in Chamberlain, South Dakota to Jack and Evelyn Wagaman. Carol grew up in Ethan with her six siblings. She attended grade school and high school in Ethan, graduating from Ethan High School. In 1992 she married West Mackey.

She was a member of the World of Life Church in Mitchell, and was strong in her faith. She consistently gave of herself by taking care of family and friends in need, never turning anyone away, and never expecting anything in return. She was incredibly proud of her family as they brought her much joy. Everyone knew Carol had a generous heart and was a giver, but those who knew her best described her as bright, funny, and just a little naughty.

Carol loved to cook and bake. She was known for her hardy well-balanced meals, and found joy in feeding everyone. Family, friends, and neighbors were treated with her delicious desserts. In the summer she fed everyone from the extensive garden she kept. She enjoyed spending hours with anyone who would help her in her garden. Carol also enjoyed all things arts and crafts. She engaged family and friends in her beautiful and creative projects. In the last several years, she started a new collection of records and refurbished a turntable to enjoy the oldies on vinal like they were meant to be heard.

Left to cherish her memory includes her children, Rick Wagaman and Chase, Shisty, Sadie, and Allen Mackey; husband, West Mackey; siblings, Linda Caviezel, Brenda Lange, Connie Frazer, Mike Wagaman, Barry Wagaman, and Larry Wagaman; seven grandchildren and many, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Emil “Jack” and Francis “Evelyn” Wagaman, and a nephew, Dominique Schurenbrand.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family for future designation in memory of Carol.

Carol was my best friend in school and for many years after we connected as adults in South Dakota, she was my bridesmaid in 1970 and her and Shy, Sadie, and Allen came to.Missouri to visit me a few years ago. We always had fun together as children and as adults. She went with me to our 50th school reunion. She was a little shy but poured her heart out on the children she loved and raised. We went to concerts together and dances, she always stuck up b for me, I can hardly wait to be her friend forever in our !Heavenly home where I wi run with her and laugh again.

A spitting image of her Mom. Such beautiful women those two were. It is with sadness I am forced to but her farewell before seeing her again.
My condolences go out to all her family, immediate and otherwise for looking at her Facebook page; her cooking gave her an extended family outside of her own.
We will all b seeing each other soon.
