Obituary

Wesley Johnson, 94, of Mitchell, SD, died Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM Saturday, October 16, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Wesley Wayne Johnson was born on May 11, 1927, to William and Martha (Dixon) Johnson in Sabula, IA. Wesley attended Miles High School. After high school at the age of 17, he joined the United States Navy from 1944-1948.

In 1946 Wes married Myrna Lou Ostrus in Clinton, IA. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he began a long career in the tv repair business. In 1985 Wesley started working with his son Kevin at FEN and Midwest Motels as a computer technician and Accountant.

Wesley loved camping, country music, and every aspect of baseball as a player, coach, and umpire. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan!

Wes is survived by his two sons, Kevin (Joy) Johnson of Mitchell and Kim Johnson of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Kristine (John) Fraser of Mt. Vernon, Kathleen Young of Watertown, and Kandace Bucy of Sitka, AK; twelve grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna, son-in-law, Paul Young, one brother, one sister, and one great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mt. Vernon Baseball Association, Attn: Darcy Deinert, PO Box 192, Mt. Vernon, SD 57363.

So sorry to hear this. Special hugs for Kathy. It is so hard to lose a parent. There just are no words to take away the sadness when you lose someone you love. Wishing you strength and comfort.
