John Paul Wentworth was born to Matilda (Knappe) and Albert Wentworth on December 19, 1925, and lived his entire life in the Stickney/Mt. Vernon/Corsica area. He attended rural school and finished an 8 year curriculum in 7 years so he could pursue his first love – farming. At about age 12, he began full time farming with his dad. On February 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Beatrice Jurgensen. They were blessed with three children, Jan, Kathy, and Jim. They lived on the farm until 2000 when he retired from farming and they moved into Stickney.

In addition to his love of farming, John also had a talent and passion for music – teaching himself to play the harmonica and the button accordion. In his later years, he joined the Tyndall Accordion Club and entertained in various venues in the area – at times even performing solo- and was a regular performer with the band at Czech Days in Tyndall and Czech Days in Wilbur, NE. His greatest pride was getting the opportunity to play with Sherwin Linton and the Cotton Kings at the Stickney Centennial celebration which led to him playing with Sherwin’s band on an annual basis at the South Dakota State Fair.

John is survived by his three children – Jan Larsen of Stickney, Kathy (Mike) Winter of Garretson, SD, and Jim (Jackie) Wentworth of Sioux Falls; grandchildren – Christine (Jim) Maguire of San Raphael, CA, John (Elaine) Larsen of Dover, NH, Emily Larsen of Manchester, NH, Josh (Madeleine) Winter of Sioux Falls, Sam Winter of Minneapolis, Ann Wentworth of New York City, and Tess (Joel) Thompson of New York City; great-grandchildren – Olivia and Scarlett Maguire, Ashton and Adella Winter, and Vivian and Ella Moore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and spouses – George and Lois Wentworth, Ima Gene, and Tom Toland, and his son-in-law, Larry Larsen.
