Roger William Stoltz

May 4, 1951 - May 16, 2010

Roger William Stoltz was born May 4, 1951 at Mitchell, SD to Frowin and Cynthia (Jarding) Stoltz. He grew up at Alexandria where he attended school and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1969.  Roger then studied electronics at Mitchell Technical Institute.  He was employed by D&E Music and Vending in Mitchell for thirty-one years. Like his father, Roger was an avid craftsman of wood; his favorite hobby was crafting intricate, ornate cathedral-style clocks in his garage.  Besides woodworking, Roger enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing and watching his favorite teams, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and often lamenting their performance via e-mail with both Pat and David.

Besides being a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews and godfather of several, Roger was a most devoted son, looking after his mom’s care the past nineteen years since Frowin’s death.  He was a regular visitor of Cynthia’s, first when she was living alone in Alexandria and then for the past several years, visiting on Tuesday nights and weekends at Brady Memorial Home.  His brothers and sister owe a debt of gratitude to him that they would never be able to repay.  He was, and always will be, the friend, uncle, brother and son we would all aspire to be.

Roger was a greeter and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

He is survived by his mother, Cynthia Stoltz of Mitchell; four brothers: Don Stoltz and wife, Jane of Custer, Jim Stoltz and wife, Madeline of Le Sueur, MN, Terry Stoltz and wife, Cathy of Alexandria, David Stoltz and wife, Barbara of Hartford and one sister, Patricia Tyx and husband, Frank of Depew, NY and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frowin Stoltz.

We are sorry and shocked to hear of Roger's death. He was the ring bearer at our wedding 51 years ago (May 16, 1959) at St. Martin's in Emery. What a wonderful little boy who grew into a fine man. Our prayers are with Cynthia and her family.

Terry, Cathy, Wade, Andy and entire Stoltz family:

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of your brother/uncle. May God shine down on you during this difficult time.

Roger was the best big brother I could have ever had. I always looked up to him and wanted to be like Rog. He was even-tempered, hard-working, talented, philosophical, and a great listener. Above all, he was my best friend. I came to rely on him for so many things. I will miss him so much. God bless you, big brother.
