Donald Roster, 90, of Mitchell died Monday, November 26, 2018 at Firesteel Health Care Center in Mitchell.  Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell.  Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Farmer.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 6:30 PM with a Rosary to follow. 

Donald Roster was born June 16, 1928 at Farmer, SD to Matt and Catherine (Lahr) Roster.  He grew up at Farmer and attended St. Peter’s Catholic School and graduated from Farmer High School.  He farmed northwest of Farmer until 1993 when he retired and moved to Mitchell.  He was the Sexton of St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery for many years.  He was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Farmer and then Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell, was very active in the church Choir, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. 

He is survived by one brother, Lawrence and wife, Cynthia of Spencer, SD, and a number of nieces and nephews and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clinton and Edward, sister-in-law Kathy Roster, and a niece Nancy Wiebelhaus.

Memorials may be made to Mitchell Catholic Foundation for Clinton and Donald Roster Endowment or charity of your choice.

Our condolences to all the Roster Family. We have thought of him often and missed him in the all of the years that we have been gone from Mitchell. Prayers to you all. We always got a Christmas letter from him even after all these years.

Sympathy to the family. Don't was a special guy. Always enjoyed going over to get eggs and would have to try the new cookies he made. Will miss seeing him at Firesteel, sometimes we would get to visit with him at meal time. God's blessings be with you.

My Mom, Helen Roster McGee, and my Grandma, Catherine Altenhofen Roster, welcomed him with open arms. My Mom enjoyed many conversations with him before her passing two years ago. My prayers and thoughts to those family members who were apart of Donnie’s life.
