John Raymond Brosnan

April 4, 1923 - July 17, 2015

John Raymond Brosnan was born on April 4, 1923 to Laura (Teller) and John Brosnan at their homestead north of Woonsocket.  He attended country school and graduated from Woonsocket High School.  John served his country in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier.  On August 2, 1947 he married Ileane Jackson at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket.  John farmed, bought and sold farm machinery and raised Black Angus cattle, which were his pride and joy.  Up until the age of 88, he remained very active in the farming operations and only recently retired.  He was a life-long member of the St. Wilfred Catholic Church and loved square dancing.

He is survived by his wife, Ilene of nearly 68 years; two children, Marilyn (John) Nissen, of Woonsocket, SD and Morris (LaVonne) Brosnan of Rapid City, SD; two grandsons, Chad (Angela) Brosnan of Rapid City, SD and Jesse Brosnan of Omaha, NE and five great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Laura; father, John; brother, Walter; and sister, Evonn.

I knew John really well. We used to pasture his black angus cattle and bought machinery from him. I'm sorry to hear about his passing.

I'll miss you Uncle Ray-my godfather-but I know you missed your Mom and Dad and brother and sister also. Tell them all hi from me and know you are loved. Love you Peggy
