Obituary

Geraldine Brenner, 85, of Mitchell, SD, died Friday, December 31, 2021, at her home under hospice care in Mitchell. Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Geraldine Faye Brenner was born on October 11, 1936, to John and Rosa (Longbine) Schlund in Mt. Vernon, SD. She grew up in Mt. Vernon and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. While married she lived in rural Letcher, Mitchell, New York, and Tennessee. She took various occupations including waitress, business owner, selling and installing telephone systems, and farming.

Geraldine traveled extensively while in the telephone business. She loved her animals down to the cantankerous old cow. Geraldine loved collecting nick-nacks, solar-powered animated figurines, China Dolls. In her free time, she made crochet doll dresses, which she would enter at least one into the county fair and receive ribbons.

Geraldine is survived by her sons, Roger (Leana) Stunes of Mitchell, Wayne (Peggy) Stunes of Mitchell, Del Ray (Cindy) Stunes of Mitchell, and Tony (Shoan) Stunes of Letcher, SD. Along with 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Stunes; sons, Melvin and Jim Stunes; second husband, John Brenner; and siblings, Gordan Schlund, Darlene (Jim) Disney, Eunice Schlund, Karen (Gary) Hoffman, Eldon (Hilda) Schlund, and Doris (Frank) Powell.
