Obituary

Eugene Haiar, 81, of Mitchell, SD, died Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 3, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the Church. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Eugene Dennis Haiar was born on February 10, 1940 on the family farm near Spencer, SD to Roman and Lucille (Warner) Haiar. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and planting his big vegetable garden. Eugene loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He married the love of his life Jo Elaine Franey on November 3, 1965. Eugene was employed as an auto body repairman at Myers Body Shop for forty years. During his retirement, he worked part time for the city of Mitchell, and most recently employed at POET. He was a proud member of the Holy Family Church in Mitchell.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Jo Elaine; son, Jeff Haiar of Pierre; daughter, Susan (Brian) Muehlbeier of Yankton; four grandchildren, Adam Haiar, Lizzy Haiar, Jessica Muehlbeier and Isaac Muehlbeier; brothers, Ronald (Mary) Haiar of Sanger, CA and Kenny (Kelly) Haiar of Sioux Falls, SD; and sister-in-law, Iva Haiar of Janesville, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Lucille; brother, Glenn; sisters, Lynette and Joanne Weiss; and stepmother, Lorraine (Ed) Lambertz.
