Obituary

Edna Oberembt, 88, of Mitchell, SD, died Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, March 5, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Dimock. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.

Edna Eva Oberembt was born May 13, 1933, in Parkston, SD to Theodore and Lena (Degan) Roth. Edna graduated from Parkston High School, and then moved to Sioux Falls where she worked for Bell Telephone Company. She married William Oberembt Jr. on July 27, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Their first home was in San Diego where Edna transferred and continued to work for Bell Telephone Company, until moving to Dimock to begin life on the farm in 1954. She was a dedicated and supportive farm wife and mother.

In 1974, she began working at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mitchell until retiring in 1989. Edna enjoyed this time as she mainly worked with newborn babies which she thoroughly enjoyed.

In her spare time, Edna enjoyed music- both dancing, as well as, singing in church choir. She also quilted and enjoyed doing embroidery.

Edna is survived by her husband of 68 years, William; children, Barb (Lee) Healy of Mitchell, Todd (La Shawn) of Dimock, and Tracy Gran of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Scott (Mandy) Healy, Lora (Seth) Wiesen, Nathan Oberembt, Kate Oberembt, Ellie Gran, and Evan Gran; 7 great-grandchildren, sister, Maurine Schneider; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Lena; brothers, Frederick, Edward, and Robert Roth; and her sisters, Florence Graff, Delores Weber, and Joan Fergen.

The family expresses their appreciation to the staff of Avera Brady Nursing Home for the care they gave Edna over the last year.
