Obituary

Donald Williams, 92, of Mt. Vernon, SD, died Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. A service honoring Donald’s life will be held Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 1-3:00 PM Sunday, with a prayer service at 2:30 PM. A burial will be at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Donald Williams was born in Mt. Vernon, SD on June 10, 1929 to Curtis and Lillie (Rathje) Williams. Don was a proud graduate of Mt. Vernon High School class of 1947.

On May 16, 1953 he married Charlotte Knudson at Salem Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon Don and Charlotte had three daughters, Brenda (Lyle) Bode, Mt Vernon, Donna (Rick) Lucas, Platte, and Karen (Perry) Anderson of Sioux Falls.

Don began farming on the family farm upon graduation and continued throughout his life. As a steward of the land, he was involved in Davison County Soil Conservation, county and state weed and pest association and was the recipient of the Good Year Conservation Award of merit for his work in conservation and natural resources. He served his community as a 4-H leader, Blendon Township school board, and Mt. Vernon Cemetery Board. Don was an avid hunter, seasoned card player and enjoyed being a grandpa and great-grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2008.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mt. Vernon Cemetery Association.

Christmas card was just returned to sender. I then checked obits. My condolences to the family. I am Charlotte's first cousin. Don was the salt of the earth.

Sorry r your lost! I enjoy the phone visits with Don thru the years, learning more about Aunts, Uncles, family !

Brenda, just seeing this news as I infrequently sign in. I pray everything is going well for your family. I remember your dad well - hard to lose our dads. Sorry for your loss.
