Obituary

Sandra Schulz, 80, of Fulton, SD, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 1-3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 30, at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Sandra Sue Schulz, a devoted wife of 58 years to Duane Schulz, a loving mother to three daughters; Sally, Tami, Karla and one son Tom.

She was born Sandra Sue Fiala on March 2, 1944, at Burke, SD; the eldest of four daughters to Ed and Pauline Fiala. In 1945, she moved with her mom and dad to a farm 6 north- 5 east - 3 north of Mitchell, SD. Living within 3 miles from there for 79 more years.

Most of her life was spent on "The Farm" and would surely fit well the classification of a Farm(h)er. From a young age, her life was spent working livestock and the land. Proficient in operating all kinds of machinery, and training her four children to do the same. Not stopping with just those four, but also multitudes of others prior to them, as Sandra had attended and acquired her teaching certificate at Dakota Wesleyan University, in Mitchell, SD, and taught in Mitchell area schools.

Wisdom and a strong work ethic was a very evident part of her life, as was her faith in The LORD JESUS CHRIST. Psalm 27 was one, of many, well-marked verses in her Bible and was one she partially quoted as her family gathered around her bed side as she fought her final battle in troubling health issues.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Duane; daughter, Sally Nielson Travers (Dr. Henry Travers) of Sioux Falls; son, Tom (Lynette) Schulz of Fulton, SD; daughter, Tami Beaudry Biskeborn (Scott Biskeborn) of Chamberlin, SD; daughter, Karla (Paul) Carr of Blue Earth, MN; her beloved grandchildren: Samantha Nielson, Katelynn Schulz Hunter, Victoria Schulz, Mira Schulz, Clay Schulz, Cody Beaudry, Casandra Beaudry, Jace Biskeborn, Jaden Biskeborn, Luke Carr, Anthony Carr, Marie Carr, and John Carr. Dear and special in her life also were her sisters, Bette (William) Haywood of Britton, SD, Barbara (Fred) Richardson of Brookings. She is also survived and blessed by many family members and lifelong friends.

Those having gone on before Sandra include her: parents; mother-in-law "2nd Mother" always addressed by Sandra as Mother Schulz; sister, Linda Lamont, whose husband still resides near Mobridge, SD; brother-in-law, Robert Schulz; and sister-in-law, Fern Schulz.

In lieu of flowers, Sandra preferred memorials sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

As Sandy’s youngest child, I want to thank you all for the comments you have shared on this websites Guestbook. My mom never embraced the new technology of doing things online, but she always loved reading and documenting who attended her hosted parties. For example even at her small 80th birthday party at a local restaurant, she commented about not bringing a guest book to sign, so she used the back of a birthday card envelope. She would save that and look at it later remembering people all by name. Again I thank all who are willing and able to sign and leave comments in this guestbook. I believe she can still see and read each of your kind words and special memories, and I know I as the daughter love learning about the people involved in my mom’s life even though I may not remember everyone’s names or faces. I look forward to reading more guestbook memories and encourage others to leave a comment or just their name as they are willing/able. Thank you all for holding such a dear spot in my mother’s heart too!❤️

We are sorry to learn of Sandy's passing. We have so many fond memories of our years together at Plano School from 1st to 12th grade and also at DWU. Sandy was always a caring person, and I fondly remember her visits to the hospital after my horse accident when she brought me a homemade peach pie. She will surely be missed by many!

I have many fond memories growing up as we were neighbors to the four Fiala girls. From May Day baskets to parties in the recreation room with a very Kool Jukebox.
Your family was the kindness.
