Joseph B. Fergen


March 16, 1938 - February 5, 2014



Joseph Bernard Fergen was born March 16, 1938 to Henry and Helen (Weber) Fergen at Dimock.  On October 26, 1957, he married Joan Roth in Mitchell.  They farmed near Dimock and Ethan most of their life, moving to Mitchell in 1989.  He then worked at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital until his retirement.  His joys in life included farming, playing cards with family and friends, dancing, playing the accordion, socializing and spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Chuck (Wanda) Fergen, Pierre and Doug (Kathy) Fergen, Dorr MI;   daughter-in-law, Christy Fergen, Dimock; three brothers:  Jim (Carol) Fergen, Henry (Carol) Fergen and Donald (Gladys) Fergen; sister, Mary Ann Boyd; five grandchildren and one great- grandchild.  

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert; one brother, Leonard and three sisters: Agnes Boehmer, Adele Laber, and Helen Thuringer Schelske.

To one of my favorite Uncles, I'll never forget your laughter, card playing, and the German accordion playing. I also remember the night at my mom's house when the band came over to the house and you and my dad sang.
