Darrell Alphons Mairose was born May 5, 1936 in Mitchell to Alphons and Celia (Peters) Mairose. He was raised on the family farm near White Lake and graduated from high school in 1954. He attended SDSU in Brookings for a year. Darrell enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving from 1956 to 1958. He returned to White Lake where he owned and operated the M & M Mercantile with his brother until 1960. He owned and managed the district Farmers Insurance Group from 1959 to 1962. On August 23, 1960 he married Mabel Reinesch at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in White Lake. In 1962 they move to the family farm west of White Lake where they farmed and raised their three children.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, the church council and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Plainfield Township board and was a member of the Circle Pitch Card Club for over 40 years. Darrell enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. He found great pleasure in watching his grandchildren grow and attending their activities. Darrell and Mabel had a great passion for dancing and socializing as members of the Elks and Moose Lodge.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 53 years, Mabel, his children: Sandy (Ron) Kristensen, Plankinton; Bruce (Ann) Mairose, Rochester, MN and Lynn (Ed) Thiry, White Lake; seven grandchildren: Kyle (Rachel) Mairose, Preston Kristensen, Abby (Zach) Carmody, Lance Thiry, Catrina Mairose, Chase Kristensen and Shane Thiry, one great-granddaughter, Lilah Mairose, a sister, Connie (Paul) Lazarus and a brother, Roger (Wendy) Mairose, sisters-in-law: Blondie (Marvin) Gales, Carol Reinesch, brothers-in-law: Don (Nancy) Reinesch, Butch (Mary) Reinesch, Bob (Mary) Reinesch, Bill Reinesch and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Roswald in infancy, his father and mother-in-law, Frank and Margaret Reinesch, brother-in-law, Jack Lambert and sister-in-law, Rosemary Reinesch.
