Delores "Tootie" Arlene Boisen

June 15, 1921 - June 13, 2013

Delores "Tootie" Arlene Boisen was born June 15, 1921 in Mitchell to Melvin and Harriet (Kobes) Knuteson.  Delores liked to dance and was chosen, along with her dance class, to dance at the World's Only Corn Palace. She threw confetti at Leo Harvey Boisen while attending a Corn Palace dance and they were married on November 25, 1940.  Together they raised three children on their family farm near Mt. Vernon.  Leo passed away in 1974 and Delores continued living on the farm. She loved the farming lifestyle and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Delores was a longtime, active member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #210 in Mt. Vernon. She was very patriotic and for many years she organized the wreath laying ceremony for the American Legion on Memorial Day, sold poppies, sent cards to veterans and always had an American flag waving outside her home.  She enjoyed Elvis Presley music, was an avid sports fan and took pleasure in following her favorite teams--the San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, and Mt. Vernon Mustangs.  Delores enjoyed cooking delicious meals and baking goodies for her family and friends. Her famous fudge, stuffing, canned pickles, and an overstocked candy drawer were her trademarks. You never left her home hungry or without a treat in your pocket. She liked to sew and sent numerous cards and letters to others.

Delores was incredibly funny, overly generous and the heart of her family.  All of her grandchildren thought she was the best grandma in the whole world, and they have fond memories driving "Grandma Tootie" around the gravel roads of Mt. Vernon in her Buick.

She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on forever in those she left behind. Loving family members include her three children: Jeree (David) Sigmund of Mt. Vernon; Dona (Dale) Frank of Mt. Vernon; Thomas (Linda) Boisen of Rochester, MN; nine grandchildren: Leah (Judd) Hill of Gillette, WY; Kim (Everett) Dean of Newcastle, WY; Dodd (Donna) Hanson of Mitchell; Troy (Dave) Hanson of Gillette, WY; Darwin (Sherry) Frank of Rochester, MN; Dalen (Christina) Frank of Mt. Vernon; Michael (Michelle) Boisen of Pittsburgh, PA; Hannah and Haley Boisen of Rochester, MN; thirteen great-grandchildren: Chrissa (Kirk) Luckow, Katina (Nathan) Smith, Kyle Dean, Kara Hanson, Nicholas Hanson, Tanner Frank, Adam Smith, Erica Buck, Patrick Cervantes, Katie Cervantes, Jason (Becca) Hill, Baend (Tia) Buus, and Yuri (Vanessa) Buus; and nine great-great grandchildren, Zander and Cohen Luckow, Josie and Callan Smith,  Emma and Aaron Buck, Mars Hill, and Kolby and Ashton Buus.

Tootie joins in heaven her parents; husband, Leo; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Grace Foltz; one infant grandchild, Jodee Hanson and many relatives and friends.
