Wayne Paul Heidinger was born October 1, 1928 in Mitchell to Conrad and Hazel (Vittitoe) Heidinger. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1946. During the Korean War he served in the US Army. On January 24, 1955 he married Norma Peer at Holy Family Catholic Church. After serving his country he worked in Alaska doing line work. In 1954 he returned to Mitchell and began working for Intercounty Electric. He started as a journeyman lineman and in 1957 became the outpost foreman for the Howard area office. In 1959 he became line foreman at the main office in Mitchell and then operations superintendent in 1968. He retired from Intercounty Electric in 1991. He was employed as a guard at Iowa Pork for several years and in 2001 he was employed by Cabela’s. In 2002 Wayne suffered a stroke and became a resident of Avera Brady Health and Rehab until April 22, 2013, when God called for His soldier to come home. Wayne was an avid deer hunter, fisherman and Vikings fan. His greatest joy was his home filled with all his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the 40 and 8 Club and the American Legion Post 18.
He is survived by one daughter, Tamara (Kevin) Larson, Rapid City; three sons: Michael (Cheryl) Heidinger, Elk River, MN; Steven (Dianna) Heidinger, Las Vegas, NV; Jeffrey (Marjorie) Heidinger, Mitchell; eleven grandchildren: Dustin (Samantha) Heidinger, Amber (Jose) Lugo, Arin (Jason) Riggs, Brandy (Joseph) Torres, Tyler (April) Larson, Tara Larson, Trevor (Olivia) Heidinger, Tyler Heidinger, Jeffrey Heidinger, Trisha Parker and Stephan Lopez, sixteen great-grandchildren: Tyrani, Taryn, Isabel, Veronica, Tyalee (Austin), Ethan, Jaysten, Weston, Morgan, Ava, Elyse, Sahnai, Dexter, Michael, Maxwell and Mason and one great-great- grandchild, Hadlee. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Ruth Heidinger, his wife, Norma and numerous aunts, uncles and nephews.
