Alan Earle Asmus

April 6, 1959 - March 9, 2013

Alan Earle Asmus was born April 6, 1959 to Alvin & Eleanor (Hollaway) Asmus in Brookings, SD.  Alan and Denise Martin were married on a beautiful fall day, October 26th, 1979. Mitchell continued to be their home. Alan was a working partner of Hollaway Construction, building bridges for thirty-nine years.

Alan’s passion was his family - his children and grandchildren were a great joy to him. He loved to work on his yard and spend time outdoors.  Snowmobiling in the winter; boating and church league softball in the summer. Alan and Denise enjoyed traveling together and with friends. His favorite destination was the Cayman Islands.

Alan was diagnosed with two types of lung cancer in July.  Alan will be remembered as a great man, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a best friend to many people.

He is survived by his wife, Denise; his son, Eric (Chelsea), and granddaughter, Mackenzie of Sioux Falls; his daughter, Heather (Chad) Wieczorek and grandchildren: Ali and Bryce of Stickney; and son, Alex in Mitchell; his mother, Eleanor; and siblings, Mike (Debbie) of Mitchell; Sheri (Ian) Dyer of Oviedo, FL and Jim of Sioux Falls; many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin.

We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Alan's passing. Many years ago he built a lot of bridges in our County and he and his family were just the best people you could know. Hard working and very nice. May he rest in Peace and may you have comfort in his memories. Take Care

I grew up in the same neighborhood as the Assmus family. I'd know Alan since he was a small boy. What a terrible loss! My heart goes out to all his family. Peace be with you in the most difficult time.

Denise & Family,
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
May God wrap his arms around all of you at this difficult time. I'm sure he welcomed Alan with open arms.
In my heart I believe Alan and Dad are visiting about all the good times they had thru the years building bridges.
May God bless all of you.
