Earl Grant Moe


June 28, 1923 - January 16, 2013



Earl Grant Moe was born June 28, 1923 to Chester & Myrl (Peck) north of Alexandria, SD.  He was the second of six children.  Earl graduated from Alexandria High School in 1940 with honors.  He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a four-year degree in business & finance which he accomplished in two years. He was a member of Delta Sigma Theta and Delta Sigma Pi Fraternities. 

He married Margaret Blakeslee December 18, 1948 at Council Bluffs, IA. Out of college he began work for Burroughs Office Equipment.  He was a salesman with Burroughs’s until 1952.  At that time, he returned to the farm.  He owned and operated one of the largest livestock operations at the time in Miner County.  Later, the farm became incorporated as Moe Land & Cattle Co. which he and his son, Roy Allen operated.  In 1998 Earl retired.

He was a member of the Fulton Methodist Church.  Earl was extremely active during his life and was proud of his many 4-H activities in his youth and later as a 4-H leader.  He served on the Miner County School Board from 1952-1958, and was a 32 degree mason, a member of the Yankton Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, El Riad Shrine & Corn Palace Shrine Club, and the Grand Lodge of Masons of SD.  He established scholarships at Hanson High School and the School of Business at the University of South Dakota.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret of Mitchell, SD; a son, Walter Moe and wife, Bonita, of Rapid City, SD; a daughter Cheri Heeb and husband, Dean of Midland, SD; six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roy Allen Moe; one brother, Roy Moe and one sister, Ethel Williams.


Memorials are established to the USD School of Business.

So sorry to hear of Earl's passing. I remember all the Moe family get togethers.
