Robert Louis Wilson


September 27, 1923 - September 10, 2012




Robert Louis Wilson was born September 27, 1923 to William G. and Annabelle (Cunningham) Wilson in Mitchell. He grew up on the farm and attended school at Plano and Spencer, graduating from Spencer High School in 1941. He entered the US Army in 1943, serving in France, Germany and Austria in the infantry during the European Theatre of Operations.  He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. On June 1, 1947 he married Norma Jean Lang. Bob was employed by Rozum Motor Company for 40 years and then Shafer Memorials for 17 years. He enjoyed playing in a country band for 22 years.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, life member of the American Legion, the VFW and the DAV and member of the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma, three children: Barbara (Bill) Butcher, Custer; Pamela (Steve) Pope, Rapid City and Thomas William (Beth) Wilson, Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren: Chrissie Ramos, Jody Scoville, Mike Austin, Jennifer Dole, Lisa Wilson, Julie Wilson and Sarah Wilson, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.



In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the ALS Foundation

or Mitchell Avera Hospice Care.

Sorry for your loss, Bob was the "go to" guy when you needed info about a Ford vehicle when he worked at Rozums. He always knew everything about the vehicle and would explain the best way to solve a problem.

Norma, Barb, Pam & Tom and families -Sorry to hear of Great Uncle Bob's passing- We surely had a great time in that band "The Starlighters" - The Crystal Chandeliers was Bob's song. He played the bass so well and sang beautifully.. - Time goes so quickly -Denny, Sheila Brian and Brad Paulus
