Marlys Joan Loomer


November 18, 1930 - August 26, 2012




Marlys Joan Loomer was born November 18, 1930, at Hazel, SD, to Robert and Gertrude (Weelborg) Haney. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1948, and attended Westmar College in LaMars, IA, and Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. She taught first grade in Watertown, SD. Bloomington, MN and Mitchell, SD. On June 22, 1958, she married James Loomer in Watertown. After their marriage, she joined her husband as the third generation of family ownership of Montgomery Furniture. She was a resident of Alexandria for forty years.  Marlys was an active member of the Alexandria United Methodist Church and UMW. She held many different offices in the church and served on numerous church boards as well as taught Sunday school for many years. She served on the Hanson School Board for 10 years, and served as president for 6 of the 10 years. She also served as a den mother for Cub Scouts. Her hobbies included raising dogs, researching family genealogy, reading, crafts, traveling, knitting, cooking, teaching and spending time with her grandchildren.

Marlys is survived by her husband James, two sons: Todd Loomer and wife Karin of Alexandria, Kent Loomer and wife Becci of Harrodsburg, KY, four grandchildren: Knacey Loomer and Joanah Loomer of Harrodsburg, KY, and Amelia and Melina Loomer of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents.

or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

She as such a wonderful mom. As Todd and Kent's babysitter for several years I know she loved Crocker spaniels named Skipper, smiling, wearing her wedding dress on their anniversary, and very thoughtful of others. I remember she gave me an iron for high graduation in 1965.. I have an Irish linen tea towel that she brought back from Panama in 1961 I use it often and think of her. Thanks you, Marlys. You were "quite a woman".

We too lost our best girl friend. Knowing Marlys was a special blessing to us and our family. We will miss this loving soul with all our hearts. With love, prayer and condolences to the Loomer family.

We lost our best girl friend. We are sad. Thanks for the time we had together with Marlys and Jim and family. She will allways stay in our mind. We pray for her and the Loomer family.
