Vera Mae Roskens

May 10, 1925 - August 26, 2012

Vera Mae Roskens was born May 10, 1925 on the family farm near Alexandria to Frank and Anne (Kissinger) Straka. She attended the same country school (Wayne #1) where her mother and children attended.  She graduated from Alexandria High School. On May 2, 1946 she married Arnold W. Roskens and they farmed until 1996 when they retired and moved into Emery. Vera accepted the Lord as her Savior as a young woman and confirmed her confession of faith by being baptized in Lake Hanson and became a member of Emery Baptist Church, where she was active teaching Sunday School and was a member of various women’s organizations. Vera was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her pleasures in life were cooking for her family, sewing quilts, garage sales and puzzles. Her grandchildren especially enjoyed the many hours she spent playing games with them. Even during her last days her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her and she always had a smile for them.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Arnold, one daughter, Valorie (Jerry) Thomas, Mesa, AZ; sons, Jerry (Wanda) and Ron (Lisa), Emery; and son-in-law, Merv Fjerestad, Sioux Falls; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one sister, Evelyn Campbell, Alexandria; brother-in-law, Edward Roskens, Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Dorothy Roskens, Emery and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jannel, her parents, one sister, mother and father-in-law, five brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law and several aunts and uncles.

Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Emery

Uncle Arnie and family,
Beautiful picture and obituary for Aunt Vera. She will be missed. I think of her with that grin and then she would say something funny! My thoughts and prayers have been with you during this difficult time; and now another journey begins. Remember all the blessings. God Bless.
