Ruth Ann Erickson Bailey, 80, of Mitchell, SD, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Edgewood Memory Care in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 6:30 PM Monday, November 30 at Bittner Funeral Chapel. A private family graveside service will be held at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-6:30 PM prior to the funeral service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Ruth Ann Erickson-Bailey, daughter of John and Nelle (Vandenberg) Noteboom was born February 3, 1940, on the family farm in rural Douglas County, SD. She attended school in Corsica where she graduated. Ruth married Darrell Bormann to which three children were born, Gregory, Lori, and Phillip. Ruth later married Mark Erickson in 1978 who passed in 2001. She married Richard Bailey in 2003 who passed in 2012. She lived in Corsica, SD, Mt. Vernon, SD, South Sioux City, IA, Cape Coral, FL, Wesley Acres, and was residing at Edgewood Memory Care at the time of her death. She wintered in Weslaco, TX, for over twenty-five years. She was a past member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church where she was a board member and the director of many Christmas programs, Mt Vernon City Council for many years, Mitchell Garden Club, and the Mt. Vernon American Legion Auxiliary. Because of her love of baseball, she was awarded a lifelong pass to all Amateur Baseball games in the state of South Dakota. She was currently a member of First Reformed Church in Mitchell at her death. Ruth worked for Fred’s Grocery, Bennets Market, Davison County Court House James Valley Nursery, Cooley Hardware/Grocery, and Walmart. She was a very crafty person; she enjoyed quilting, sewing, making wood projects, painting, yard work, maintaining her flower beds, and gardening. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports. This always brought a huge smile to her face. She also loved to play the piano and had a beautiful voice. She and her sisters could sing some beautiful songs together. Christmas was her favorite holiday-no limits to her decorations, many of which she made herself. Decorating to the hilt- indoors and outdoors.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Greg (Diane) Bormann of Omaha, NE, and their children, Melissa Bormann, Sarah Johnson, Kyle Bormann, and Danielle Vaughn; Lori (Ron) Earl of Plankinton, SD, and their children, Gary (Tami) Earl, Rubin Earl, and Orric (Amanda) Earl; and Phillip (Luddy) Bormann of Virginia, and their children, Sophia and Zachary Bormann; step-daughter, Gail (Phil) Lanum, and their son, Jeremy; ten great-grandchildren; siblings: Mary Doorn, Judy VanderPol, Gene (Phyllis) Noteboom, Doug (Carol) Noteboom and Darrell Bormann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husbands: Mark Erickson and Richard Bailey, Parents: John/Nelle Noteboom, Step-son Greg Erickson, Sisters: Leona (John) VanRoekel and Lois (Francis) Fisher, brothers-in-Law: Lowell Doorn and Marvin VanderPol.
