Valerie LaBreche, 81, of Mitchell, SD, died Monday, November 16, 2020 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. A graveside service will be 1:00 PM Friday, December 4, at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Valerie Anne LaBreche was born January 5, 1939 in Milwaukee, WI to Walter and Mary (Zielinski) Petersdorf. She grew up attending school in Milwaukee. On August 2, 1958 she married Anthony LaBreche. They resided in Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina and Nebraska before moving to Mitchell in 1970. Val worked at the Corn Palace during summers, was employed as sales director for the Mitchell Holiday Inn, front-end manager at County Fair Food Store and Director/Curator at the Enchanted World Doll Museum for 19 years.
She served on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce, CVB, South Dakota Visitors Association, Mitchell Concert Series, Mitchell Hospitality Committee, Mitchell Library, Meals on Wheels, Lioness Club, the Welcome Wagon and was a Girl Scout and Cub Leader. She was Eucharistic minister, lector, chair of the Altar Guild, Vestry Board member and Vestry Clerk of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her son, Scott (Julie) LaBreche of Grand Island, NE and daughter, Kay LaBreche of Mitchell, five grandchildren: Matt, Alex, Brenna, Amber, Sarah, four great grandchildren, Jamison, Autumn, Ella Marie and Avery.
