Michael Denne was born on July 25, 1951 to Ronald and Lorraine (Hinnenkamp) Denne in St. Cloud, MN. In 1958 the family moved to Mitchell, and in 1959 they established Ron’s Bicycle and Locksmith Shop. On May 14, 1971 Mike was united in marriage to Gail Yusten in Mitchell, SD. In 1971 they moved to Lead, SD where Mike worked for Homestake Goldmines. From 1973-74 they resided in Rock falls, IL, until they made there way back to Mitchell. After returning to Mitchell, Mike began his life-long career as second-generation owner of Ron’s Bicycle and Locksmith Shop. In the last 22 years he worked side by side with his youngest son Cody. He took great pride in his work as a locksmith, and would point out where he had done lock work while driving around.

Mike’s early hobbies were building a Harley Davidson Knucklehead Chopper with his dad, trap shooting, mud runs, car races, playing in a pool league, and hunting with his children.  Later on in life Mike’s pride and joy in life were his grandkids and great-grandkids. He enjoyed attending their sporting events of hockey, softball, football, and volleyball. Mike also enjoyed going to Jamie’s cabin in Minnesota. Mike also had a passion for old cars. He loved his ’67 Chevelle SS and his ’56 Chevy. Also in his later years, Mike kept busy at his shed messing around with all his treasures.

Mike is survived by his wife, Gail; daughter, Tayla Thompson of Mitchell; sons, Jamie (Tina) Denne of Madison, SD, Cory Denne of Mitchell, and Cody (Kourtney) Denne of Mitchell; grandchildren, Sydney (Mike) Toebes, Briana Hofer, Zac Hofer (special friend, Brenna Walz), Madyson Thompson, Oakley, Aspen, Parker, Paxton, and Kollins Denne; great-grandchildren, Hadley and Greyson; siblings, Judy (Gaylenn) Ozanne and Debbie Connor both of Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gary, and father-in-law, Kenneth Yusten.

Denne Family,
Our family’s hearts and prayers go to each and every one of you. We wish you peace and send our love during this sad time. Thank you Uncle Mike for sharing your gift and passion for bicycles! When I wanted a bike I knew where to go because of the family with whom I would get to interact with. I always enjoyed the stories Uncle Mike would share at family gatherings that would make everyone laugh. I can hear his voice and his laugh and that is what I am choosing to remember at this time.

I remember in the late 70,s early 80,s, My grandpa would have my bikes purchased at rons shop, because I would jump ramps at a bmx bike trail that Rodney Weiser created. RIP Mike Holy Spirit proud.

I just sat and watch this video and smiled and cried and laughed so many emotions for someone I knew for such a long time . Then I read everyone's comments and all the memories that everyone shared . I will never forget all the times that we have spent together before you got married and when you got married and yes and I must mention passing out at your wedding . Sister I am here for you whenever you need someone to lean on or just to talk to you I love you ! The thing that makes me the maddest Mike is now you have made me the oldest in the family ❤️❤️ Just a little thing that he and I joked about all the time. Rip Mike

Gail,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family today. When Leena called me the other night and told me Mike had passed, it was a sad moment. Then I started thinking about all the good times we all had together. I was a young boy, going to grade school at Eugene Field, when I first met the Denne's. Most days after school I would wind up at bike shop. Ron was always good about letting us kids in the shop to ticker with our bikes. It was fun to hang out with Gary, Deb, Lorriane and Mike. Always very friendly people. As the years went on, we all became friends and grew up together. It was nice to see the familiar names of all your friends who have made comments. I remember the day when Ron got a new 500 BSA racing bike into the shop. I think it was for sale, but soon became Mike's racing bike. As I remember, the first time on the track outside of town, Mike took a 3rd place in 1 of the races. I'm guessing that's where it all started for Mike. HIs love of racing, motorcycles and cars. I also remember when you and Mike dating. It was a match to last a life time.

All our best wishes,

Bob Rubin

I think I was about nine years old when Mike first started coming around to date my sister Gail. The years that followed after their marriage when they went to lead to live I went and stayed for the summer. When they lived in Illinois I went and stayed for the summer. When they came back here to live in Mitchell, I was there nanny for Jamie and Tayla. As an older teenager and young adult we partied like it was 1999, and it wasn’t even 1999 yet...
All this to say he was always in my life my children’s lives and he will be dearly missed. We love you Gail and family and really do wish it was a different time and we could be there for the funeral know that we will be watching online and our heart will be wrenched with grief with you. Rest in peace Mike

As I was born just months before he married my sister.. He will leave a large hole. But we are all fortunate to have great memories of him. RIH!! Love ya brother!

I am saddened to hear of Mike’s death! As my brother Doug said, my first memories of Mike were from the undefeated baseball team early in their lives. Our family bought many bikes from Ron’s bicycle shop and we so enjoyed Mike’s parents, too. Once in awhile Mike and I crossed paths and it was immediate friendship again. He was always a wonderful guy willing to help in any way he could. Sending you prayers of comfort.

Mike and I were close friends in grade school but parted ways when we both started going to different schools. We always acknowledged each other later in life but we both probably silently remember a different relationship: being very close and together often as friends early in our pre-teen life.

Not sure that Mike ever talked to his family about Team 10 - we went undefeated as a young baseball team one summer. Other members on the team that I recall... Bob Young, Wes Klinkhammer, Mick Scheid, Keith Sprinkle and others I do not recall at the moment. This was probably the hay-day-of-our-relationship. I have many early life fond memories of Mike.

Since he was a wonderful friend to me 60-years ago, I bet he was a wonderful husband and father to you all. I just lost my Father to Covid so I sense your helplessness as America tries to figure out what we did wrong to lose so many,
