Obituary

Wayne Louie Goldammer, 84, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020 in his home. A visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday, September 25 at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service. A private funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 26 with a private burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Wayne was born to Louie & Martha (Olawsky) Goldammer on January 25th, 1936 on the family farm near Dimock. He was the 8th of 11 children. He attended Washington County School through the 8th grade, and after obtaining his GED, Wayne attended St. Joseph's School of Radiologic Technology. He was an X-Ray Technician at the Methodist hospital for many years. After leaving the hospital Wayne held various jobs in the community.

On November 10th, 1957 he was united in marriage to Joan DeJong in Mitchell at First Lutheran Church where they remained members. Being Blessed with the Goldammer singing ability, Wayne sang in the church choir and with the Barber Shop Chorus.

Wayne would offer a helping hand to anyone, maybe adding a quick joke, and his usual smile. He had a love for the outdoors, fishing, camping, and had a passion for yard work. He never encountered anything he couldn't fix or at least attempt to fix. If Wayne couldn't fix it, no one could, but don't throw it away until he had a crack at it.

He was very proud of his 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and loved them dearly. He and Joan attended many activities over the years.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan; daughter, Debra (Steve) Rice; son, Mark (Renee) Goldammer; grandchildren, Mollie (Alex) Loes, Anna Rice, Jacob (ReeAnn Christianson) Rice, Jason (Molly) Goldammer, and Chantel (Ryan) Halperin of Huron; great-grandchildren, Thea Loes, Cashton Goldammer, and Axton and Skylar Halperin; also 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, 2 brothers (one in childhood), 6 brothers-in-law, and 2 sisters-in-law.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Avera Hospice.

I remember working at Methodist many years ago. The X-ray department was right across from the laboratory. I have many memories of all the good times with the X-ray group.

We wish to extend our condolence's and let you know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Wayne and I, first cousins, attended school together in rural Dimock. Our parents farms were adjacent to each other.

I knew Wayne from working at Methodist Hospital years ago. He was a very kind, funny man, always smiling. He will be missed.
