Obituary

Harold Goldammer, 88, of Salem formerly of Dimock, SD, died Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 3, 2020 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dimock, SD. Burial will be in Parkston Protestant Cemetery in Parkston, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at St. John Lutheran Church. Due to COVID 19 concerns the family requests masks to be worn at the service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Harold Fred Goldammer was born August 25, 1932 to Ernest and Lenora (Sprecher) Goldammer on a farm 12 miles west of Dimock, SD. He attended Coyote Center country school (Corsica) for 8 years. Harold helped his Dad on the farm, until he was drafted into the Army in 1952. He was stationed at Camp Roberts, CA where he was assigned as platoon Sergeant. Harold was later stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA where he was proud to be among the soldiers when the movie "To Hell and Back" was filmed starring Audie Murphy. Harold was honorably discharged from the service on November 11, 1954.

Harold married Hilda (Uttecht) on January 16, 1956. Harold farmed west of Dimock for 25 years, and moved to Parkston where he was a salesman for Ritter Walz Implement, a car salesman , a police officer for the City of Parkston, and worked at Agland Coop.

He was a member of the UCC church where he sang in the Men's choir.

After Hilda passed away in 1999, Harold moved to Mitchell, SD where he worked in the Deli at County Fair and married Darlene Maeschen in 2004. Darlene passed away in 2011.

Harold met Naomi Dorale at a Senior's dance, and moved to Salem. They went to many dances together, and when Harold's health declined, he went to the Bridgewater Diamond Care in 2019.

He is survived by his 3 children, Brian (Paulette), Donna, TX, Gail Overman, Medridianville, AL, and Lona Sahl, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Andrea, Amber, Bobby, Michael ,Travis, Meagan, and Shane; 16 great-grandchildren; and his special friend Naomi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Hilda and Darlene; grandson, Grant; sister, Helen Ann; and son-in-law, Helge.

Gail, Your father's obituary is beautiful. It sounds like he had a busy, wonderful life, filled with family, love and adventure. I love that! To Hell and Back is a great movie. That legacy must make you proud. I know you miss him terribly. I am so very sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you.
