James "Jim" Kunkel

Jim Kunkel, 73, of Alexandria, SD, died Friday, August 21, 2020 at his home near Alexandria under hospice care. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Epiphany Catholic Church in Epiphany, SD. Burial will be in Holy Three Kings Cemetery in Epiphany. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM on Monday at Epiphany Catholic Church with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

James “Jim” Anthony Kunkel was born on November 28, 1946 to Mark John and Avice (Schroeder) Kunkel near Epiphany, SD. Jim graduated in 1964 from Farmer High School. He served four years for the Navy Air in China Lake and San Diego during the Vietnam War.

Jim married the love of his life, Gloria (Hill), on August 5, 1972 in St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Emery, SD.  

Jim is survived by his wife, Gloria; daughters, Brenda (Sean) Sosa and Jennifer (Brad) Kunkel; and grandchildren, Alexus, Joshua, Gabriel, and David.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean (Duane) Haiar.
