Obituary

Donald “Don” Harris, 85, of Mitchell, SD, died Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. A private, family funeral service will be held. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Donald Fred Harris was born on April 4, 1935 in Hanson County to “Fritz” and Maude (Zehlke) Harris. Don attended Plano School all 12 years.

Don and Norma met while roller skating at age 13. They later married on February 19, 1955. Don and Norma always lived in or close to Mitchell.

Don was the bowling machine mechanic for Mitchell and small area towns. Later, he owned his own lawn service for 18 years.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma (Ruhberg) Harris; sons, Don Jr. and Jeff Harris; daughter, Judy Armstrong; grandchildren, Troy Walz, Travis Walz, Jessica Basol, Noelle Murphy, Macie Harris, Nicholas Harris, and Lyndsi Heiserman; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Mike Harris.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Whitney, Betty Bartscher, and Jeanette Sargeant; daughter-in-law, Margorie Harris; brothers-in-law, Bob Sargeant, Don Bartscher; and sister-in-law, Sherice Harris.
