Ronnie "Ron" Cleve Duffel, 74, of Freeman, SD formally of Ft. Pierre, SD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at his home in Freeman. A graveside service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. A luncheon will be held at Bittner Funeral Chapel following the graveside service. Ron was born August 10, 1945 in Hollywood, Missouri to Birlas and Oberia (Bailey) Duffel. Ron graduated from Weiner High School in Weiner, Arkansas in 1964. Ron married Beverly Ann Marsden on April 16, 1966 in Mt Vernon, South Dakota. They had 5 children: Cheryl (1968), Jennie (1970), Mary (1972), Delmas (1974), and Terry (1977).
Ron joined the United States Air Force in 1964 and proudly served until 1968. He obtained his BA in Vocational Education from the University of South Dakota in Springfield in 1974. Ron and his family would spend the next 18 years living on a farm in Mt Vernon, South Dakota. In 1992, Ron and Bev moved to Ft. Pierre while Ron drove truck until he retired in 2014.
Ron enjoyed spending time with his 14 grandchildren. He cherished playing catch and fishing with his grandkids. He would attend as many of their sporting events as possible. Ron would devote hours to woodworking projects to be sold at craft shows and helping with his grandchildren’s 4-H projects. In 1968, he bought a 1969 GTO that he fell in love with (he has even kept a framed picture of it to this day).
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverly; son-in-law Dan (Cheryl) Hoffman; daughter, Jennie (Lee) Haeffner of Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Delmas (Tobi) Duffel of Monroe, SD and Terry (Nancy) Duffel of Onida, SD; brothers, Rick (Pat) Duffel of Linden, NC, Terry (Susan) Duffel of Clarksville, AR, Mick (Maggie) Duffel of Hornersville, MO, Steven (Angela) Duffel of Piggott, AR, Robert Long of Kennett, MO, Jim (Pam) Duffel of Jonesboro, AR, Roger Duffel of Jonesboro, AR; sisters, Deb (Dave) Jones of Jonesboro, AR, Marie (Terry) Wilson of Kennett, MO, Theresa (Tom) Jones of Weiner, AR; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ron was proceeded in death by his daughters, Cheryl Hoffman and Mary Duffel; his parents; brother, Clete; and sister, Mary.
