Eleanor Lorenz, 100, of Mitchell formerly of Chicago IL, died Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Firesteel Health Care Center in Mitchell. Funeral services are pending under the direction of the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Eleanor was born December 9, 1919 in Chicago, the only child of Louis and Elsie (Simon) Zuhn. She was a graduate of Schurz High School in Chicago. After high school, Eleanor pursued a secretarial career beginning at Illinois Bell.
She grew up loving all sporting activities. Eleanor and her father would often visit Wrigley Field to cheer on the Chicago Cubs. She was, also, a member of an award-winning traveling tennis team.
On February 6, 1943, Eleanor married Elmer Lorenz while he was on leave from army duty. They lived their entire married lives in the Edison Park neighborhood of Chicago, and were the proud parents of Jerrye Lynn and Robert. Together, the two enjoyed dancing, golfing, and traveling. On October 26, 2007 Elmer passed away, and Eleanor moved to Mitchell in 2009.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Jerrye Lynn Lorenz of Waukegan, IL; son, Robert (Jeanne) Lorenz of Mitchell; grandsons, Matt (Kelly) Lorenz of Jordan, MN, and Jordan (Megan O’Rourke) of Fullerton, CA; and great-grandsons, Dylan and Cooper Lorenz.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer.
