Obituary

Randy Nelson, 59, of Mitchell, SD, died Wednesday, March 4, 2020 in his home in Mitchell. A celebration of life service is pending at a later date under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Randy was born in Burke, SD to Lee and Dee Nelson on October 19th, 1960. He attended Lucas Elementary, and middle and high school in Burke. He graduated high school in 1978.

Randy married in 1982, and from that marriage he had two wonderful children, Jessica and Joshua.

Randy attended college at USD in Vermillion, SD, pursuing a career as a history teacher.

Randy enjoyed many hobbies in his free time. He loved hunting with his son Joshua, family, and friends. He, also, loved reading Western books, especially Louis L'Amour books, enjoyed movies, loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, and meeting with his church group.

Randy is survived by his children, Jessica Vest and Joshua Nelson of Grand Junction, CO; his four grandchildren, Skylar, Emily, Alec, and Adalyn; siblings, Loryece Handwerk of Marion, SD, Rick (Martha) Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD, Marcy Nelson of Peoria, AZ, Ron (Sylvia) Nelson of Pierre, SD, Donovan (Renee) Wright of Mina, SD, Dara Johnson of Albuquerque, NM, Darwin Nelson of Mitchell, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Dee Nelson.

I will miss our daily calls and the sound of your laughter as we discussed everything from politics to religion and everything in between. I couldn't ask for a better friend. I know you are in a better place and feeling no pain rest in peace my friend.

Randy was a brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. He will be missed, but we find comfort in memories of him. May God accept his spirit and keep him in a special place where he will be happy forever.
