James “Jim” Myers, 76, of Mitchell died, Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at his home in Mesa, AZ. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 10, at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
James Myers was born March 29, 1943 to Roland and Catherine (McLaughlin) Myers in Fort Riley, KS. He grew up in Mitchell, SD, and graduated from Mitchell High School. After high school, James went to the University of South Dakota, and graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University. Upon graduating college Jim enlisted in the United States Army, and was stationed in Washington, D.C. at the Pentagon. He married the love of his life, Cheryl Baldwin, and they were married for 49 years.
After the service, Jim began his career in banking at Livestock State Bank, that later became Cortrust Bank, for 35 years until his retirement in 2003. In retirement, Jim and his wife Cheryl would spend their winters in Mesa, Arizona where he enjoyed golfing, reading books, spending time with family and friends, and attending grandchildren’s activities.
James was a member of the Rodeo Committee, Baseball Association, Shriners, and the Exchange Club.
He is survived by his three sons, Jason Roger Myers, Mitchell, SD, Seth Andrew Myers, Mitchell, SD, and Michael James (Grace) Myers, Surprise, AZ; eight grandchildren, Adelina, Gavin, Aiden, Alyse, Piper, and Kirby Myers, Madelyne Mcleod, and Emma Feldman; sister, Pam Durst; sister-in-laws, Bonnie Kasten, and Linda (Vincent) O’Hern; and a nephew, Erick (Teri) Durst.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl.
