James Eyer, 71, of Mitchell, died Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Firesteel Health Care Center in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday February 29, 2020 at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
James “Jim” Eyer was born April 16, 1948 to Dale and Mary (Heihner) Eyer in Washington D.C. They moved to California in 1953, and eventually to Bend, Oregon. He attended Redmond High School in Oregon. After high school he then attended Central Oregon Community College (COCO). Jim enlisted in the army in 1970, and served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. Upon returning, Jim began his career as a truck driver, driving many years for Gresham Trucking.
He married the love his life, Shirley (Hutchin), on June 3, 1979 in Reno, Nevada. Shirley rode along for many years with Jim to keep him company while he drove truck. Jim enjoyed family gatherings when all of his kids would visit.
Survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley; two sons, Keith and Shawn Eyer; two daughters, Penny (Marvin) Wafford and Lisa Eyer; and ten grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and step-sister, Ruth McClasky.
