Marlyn Christensen, 84, of Mitchell died, Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell, SD. A memorial service will be at a later date under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Marlyn K. Christensen was born September 28, 1935 to Wilmar and Myrtle Christensen on a farm in rural Turner County, near Viborg, SD. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Spring Valley Church. He attended District #44 country school, graduating from Hurley High School in 1953. He worked for Cushing Construction installing telephones in South Dakota, Kansas and Illinois until 1956 when he enrolled at SDSU. He married Corinne Peterson on September 1, 1957 at Viborg, SD. He graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1960. They moved to Mitchell, and Marly worked at Kress Drug and Scallin Drug until 1963 when he and Corinne purchased the Clinic Pharmacy in Delaney Clinic. He closed the pharmacy in 1992, and worked at the Medicine Shoppe, Dakota Pharmacy and the Avera Outpatient Pharmacy until 1998 when he retired.
Marly served as a Board Member and President of the Mitchell Area Development Corporation from 1988 to 1994.
He was appointed to the Board of Pharmacy in 1985 by Governor Bill Janklow, and was a member of Jaycee’s, Lion's, Duck's Unlimited and Elks. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, and served on the council. He was a part owner of the Corn Palace Broadcasting Company from 1979 to 1997.
In his free time Marly enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Corinne; sons, Eric and Carl; grandsons, Skyler and Shaye; great grandson, Sebashtian; and brother, Larry (Elna) Christensen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Darrell.
