Obituary

Alton Bahmuller, 92, Mitchell, formerly of Alexandria,SD, died Friday, January 31, 2020 at his home in Mitchell.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Emery.  Burial will be in Emery Community Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 PM at the Church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Hettinger-Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Alton Bahmuller was born August 16, 1927, near Parkston, SD to Andrew and Katherine (Fischer) Bahmuller.

He grew up on a farm near Emery and attended country school, Taylor 3. He was baptized January 1, 1939 at the First Baptist Church where he was a lifetime member.

Alton was drafted into the Army in 1946, served in Yokohama Japan, and was honorably discharged in 1947.

After the service he farmed with his father and brother Ted in the Alexandria area.

On February 25, 1949 he married Faye Evelyn Letcher at the Emery Baptist Parsonage, and they celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage.

They farmed Southeast of Alexandria until they retired, and in 2011 they moved to Meadowlawn Plaza in Mitchell where he was a resident until his death.

Alton is survived by his son, Gary (Dorothy) Bahmuller of Alexandria, SD; his daughter, Linda Wagner of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Nicholas (Jan) Bahmuller of Alexandria, SD, Becky (Brett) Doyle of Alexandria, SD, Aaron (Jessica) Bahmuller of Alexandria, SD, Brian (Melisa) Bahmuller of Alexandria, SD, Tim (Danielle) Wagner of Mitchell, SD, Katie (Nick) Jacob of White Salmon, WA; 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Fern Huber of Bridgewater, SD and Clara Letcher of Mitchell, SD.

Alton was preceded in death by his wife, Faye in 2014; brothers, Edward, Theodore, Irvin, Herbert, and Lee; two sisters, Leona in infancy and Edna.

So sorry to hear of Altons passing. He was one of a kind. The kindest person I have ever met. I will miss seeing him everyday at Meadowlawn.

My dear friend Alton, may you dance with your sweet bride again! Alton was a one of a kind man. He was a genuine friend and would help anyone. Thank you to the family for sharing him with us while I was at Meadowlawn Plaza. I will never forget him or your mom. I am sure he has that big infectious grin on his face with his love in his arms again. You were a class act Alton and until we meet again......big hugs buddy!!

Alton was the kindest gentleman ever. I will miss our many conversations in the "puzzle room" at Meadowlawn Plaza. My heartfelt sympathy to his family.
