Obituary

Mary Elaine Engbrecht, 83, of Mitchell, SD, died Friday, December 20, 2019, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 23, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at West Vermillion Cemetery in rural Marion, SD. Visitation will be 5-7:00 PM Sunday, December 22, at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Mary Elaine Engbrecht was born on April 23, 1936, to Hans and Rachel (Satter) Miller in Parker, SD. She grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School. On January 2, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Virgil Engbrecht. After living in Marion for a short time, the couple moved to Sioux Falls from 1956 until 1968, when they moved to Mitchell.

Mary enjoyed golfing, bowling, and gardening. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She made many enjoyable trips with family and friends.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was a member of their Altar Guild.

Mary is survived by her five children, Dennis (Pamela) Engbrecht, Fairfield, IA, LuAnn Neugebauer (fiancé, Randy Thompson), Brandon, Tamara (Steve) Brinkman, Mitchell, Doug (Kathy) Engbrecht, Madison, and Kim (Mike) Ostbye, Mitchell; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings, Muriel (Vern) Stoecker, Aberdeen, sisters-in-law, Vi Engbrecht, Marion, and Darlene Engbrecht, Brandon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Engbrecht, on October 24, 2014; her parents; two sisters, Ruth Evans and Ann Deckert.

Bless her heart! Mary was such a feisty sweetheart. Although she will be missed, so thankful she is no longer suffering and that she is back with her true love. Thoughts and prayers for her family. May all the funny stories she provided quickly replace the sorrow in your hearts.
