Obituary

James “Jim” Holzer, 64, of Mitchell, died Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at his home in Mitchell.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Saturday, November 16, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake, SD. Burial will be at the Timber Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday, with a 6:30 PM Scripture Service at the church. Arrangements are by Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell and Oster Funeral Home in Mobridge.

James “Jim” Holzer was born January 24th, 1955 in Mobridge SD to Joseph and Angeline Holzer. He was the second of five boys. Jim was raised on a farm just south of Timber Lake and attended Timber Lake School. Jim spent most of his childhood helping his dad on the farm. He graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1974. On April 20th, 1979 he married Debra Wishard. He worked various jobs before starting with the Dewey County Highway Department. In 2016 he moved to Mitchell, SD and began working for the Davison County Highway Department.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, woodworking, gardening and spending time outdoors. He treasured his time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his 2 children: Kristi (Tommy White) Holzer of Pierre, SD and Kooter (Jenny) Holzer of Ethan, SD; 5 grandchildren Payton, Brody, Kirby, Paisley and Rudy Holzer; his mother Angeline Holzer of Aberdeen, SD; and 3 brothers: Tim (Debra)Holzer of Aberdeen, SD; Alvin (Debbie) Holzer of Yuma, AZ; and Richard (Patricia) Holzer of Ely, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Holzer and brother Ben Holzer.

I had the opportunity to work with jim the last few years with the davispn county highway department. Very sad news to hear of his passing, and he will be missed.
