Beatrice Jane Wentworth, age 90, of Stickney, SD, passed away on August 23, 2019, at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour, SD.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney. Burial will be Silver Ridge Cemetery in Stickney. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday at the church.
Beatrice Jane Wentworth was the fourth of five children born to Bertha (Titze) and William Jurgensen. She was born on October 4, 1928, and grew up on the farm in the Stickney/Mt. Vernon area. She attended country school and went to Mt. Vernon High School where she was the homecoming queen. She graduated in 1946 and on February 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to John Wentworth. They were blessed with three children, Jan, Kathy, and Jim. They lived on the farm until 2000 when they moved into Stickney.
Bea was a homemaker and farm wife who did all the things that were required, but her passion and skill were in her sewing. She made beautiful clothes for herself and her girls, started her own reupholstering business, and in her later years, took up quilting, making a variety of quilts for her family. She also did mending and alterations for people in the community.
Grateful for the opportunity of sharing her life are her husband of 72 years, John; children, Jan Larsen of Stickney, Kathy Winter (Mike) of Garretson, SD, Jim Wentworth (Jackie) of Stickney; grandchildren, Christine Larsen Maguire (Jim) of San Rapheal, CA, John Larsen (Elaine) of Dover, NH, Emily Larsen of Stickney, Josh Winter (Madeleine) of Sioux Falls, Sam Winter of Minneapolis, Ann Wentworth of New York City, and Tess Wentworth of Sioux Falls; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Scarlett Maguire, Ashton and Adella Winter, and Vivian and Ella Moore; siblings Lovella Buntrock of Warrenton, VA, and Stan Jurgensen of North Olmstead, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Arvid and Delbert, and her son-in-law, Larry Larsen.
