Irene Lenora Schultz, age 98, died June 7, 2019, at Avera Brady Health & Rehab in Mitchell. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rural Dimock. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11th, at Bittner Funeral Home in Mitchell, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
Irene Schultz was born in Hutchinson County on January 2, 1921, to Christian J. and Bertha (Mogck) Winter. She was baptized February 27, 1921, at Eigenfeld Church, Rural Parkston, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 5, 1936, at Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston. In her teen years, Irene worked for many area families and later was employed at Armour Creamery in Mitchell. On March 3, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to Lehmann Schultz. They lived and farmed in Douglas County for three years, after which they moved to the Mt. Vernon area and continued farming. Following the death of Lehmann, Irene moved to Parkston in 1982. Irene worked for a time at the Parkston School cafeteria. In August 2012 Irene moved to Countryside Assisted Living in Mitchell. Irene enjoyed bowling, traveling, playing cards, quilting, crafting, scrapbooking, cooking, gardening, canning, and baking, especially making kuchen and poppyseed roll.
Irene is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews, and special friends
Tom and Deb Neugebauer, Mark and Kathy Werning, Jan Brosz, and Allyn Brosz.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lehmann, special friend Ray Brosz, two sisters Violet Reimnitz and Eldora Uttecht, and two brothers-in-law Walter Reimnitz and Gilbert Uttecht.
