Jerauld “Jerry” Damon, 81, of Mitchell, died Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at his home under the care of hospice.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM Friday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the church. Arrangements are with the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Jerauld Earl Damon was born November 11, 1937 at Bridgewater, SD to Earl and Alice (Bartling) Damon. He grew up at Bridgewater, graduating from Bridgewater High School. He then graduated from Sioux City Barber College. On November 16, 1958 he married Carolyn Kuder in Mitchell. Jerry operated Damon’s Barbershop for 57 years, retiring in 2014. He was awarded Barber of the Year in 1992. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, South Dakota Barber Association, and previously Mitchell Quarterback Club and Dakota Wesleyan Team Makers.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Damon, two daughters: Kathy (Dr. Bruce) Albrecht of Mitchell, Mary (Gerry Burke) Damon-Burke of Omaha, NE, one son, Fred (Sandy Schmidt) Damon of Louisville, CO, four grandchildren: Jeffery Albrecht of Lincoln, NE, Cole (Breanna) Damon of Littleton, CO, Baily Burke and fiance’ Matthew Runia and Regan Burke of Omaha, NE, two sisters: Gloria Kolbeck of Sioux Falls and Linda (David) Hofer of Las Vegas, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Janet Amundson and Barbara Clinard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
