Elsie Magdalena (Will) Kaufman was born on November 25, 1921 near Delmont, SD to Henry and Magdalena (Lindemann) Will. She grew up in the Delmont area and attended local country schools. In her late teens she attended National Youth Administration (NYA) classes in White Lake, SD. NYA was a New Deal agency sponsored by the Presidency of Franklin D. Elsie was united in marriage with Herbert Kaufman on January 28, 1942. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in January of 2011. Herb and Elsie farmed in the Delmont area for 15 years. In 1956 they moved to Mitchell, SD where Herb was employed in the construction business and Elsie continued as a homemaker in addition to raising three children. She moved to Sioux Falls to be closer to family after Herb’s passing.

Elsie enjoyed a lifelong love of music and literature. She had a large collection of vinyl records and books. Until recently she would read at least one book per week. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening and baking the latest recipe she had found in a magazine.

Elsie enjoyed times with her children and their families, Lyle Kaufman and wife Judy of Littleton, CO, Cheryl Mitchell of Boulder, CO (deceased), Arlys Dvorak of Sioux Falls, SD (deceased). Elsie was very proud of her six grandchildren, Jeff Kaufman of Littleton, CO, Lisa Lindemann and husband Craig of Chicago, IL, Amy Taylor and husband Kelly of Sioux Falls, SD, Alex Dvorak, Chicago, IL, Aaron Dvorak, Sioux Falls, SD and Eric Mitchell, Loveland, CO and nine great grandchildren, Andrew, Evan and Cameron Kaufman of Littleton, CO, Cole, Alex, Olivia, and Blake Lindemann of Chicago, IL, and Sophie and Emma Taylor of Sioux Falls, SD.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of Elsie. May the precious memories you’ve shared together ease your pain of heart in the days ahead. As we wait to see and talk to our loved ones again, may our Creator solidify YOUR hope of joining her in a world free from pain, suffering, and death. “And he (Jehovah) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, neither will morning nor outcry nor pain be anymore”. Lyle and Judy--I was sorry to read that you have lost your mom, Lyle. She was just a couple years younger than my mother who we lost almost two years ago. It is hard to lose them even though we were very blessed to have had them for so many years. God bless your family as you mourn, but also as you rejoice in her homegoing.
