Lois Ann Thuringer, 89, of Mitchell, formerly of Ethan, died January 23, 2019 at Avera Bormann Manor, Parkston with family at her side.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 27 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a scripture service at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 28 at 10:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell with her grandson, Fr. Andrew Thuringer celebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements are under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Lois Ann Thuringer was born March 6, 1929 near Dimock to Werner and Ruby (Miller) Zeier. She attended Ss. Peter and Paul Elementary School in Dimock, Notre Dame High School in Mitchell, and graduated from Parkston High School. She married Luverne Thuringer November 8, 1949 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock. They lived and farmed in the Ethan area for forty-five years before retiring and moving to Mitchell. They were married for 52 years until Luverne’s death in 2002.
Lois was a member of the altar society and a religious education teacher at Holy Trinity Parish in Ethan and active in the Love Feast at Holy Spirit Parish in Mitchell. She loved the farm life and had a passion for caring for her family, sewing and traveling on bus trips. She enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren in their many activities.
Survivors include her nine children: Dennis (Marvel) Thuringer, Rapid City; Charles (Elaine) Thuringer, Mitchell; Ronald (Lois) Thuringer, Madison; Beverly (Keith) Bowar, Gillette, WY; Bonnie (Michael) Hoffman, Parkston; Mark (Marilyn) Thuringer, Woodbury, MN; Daryl (Anita) Thuringer, Sioux Falls; Donna (David) Ripp, Dimock; Glenn (Karla) Thuringer, Worthington, MN; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Betty Roth, Parkston; Norman Thuringer, Mitchell; Marjo Vilhauer, Parkston; Ralph Thuringer, Parkston and Jim Horstman, Mitchell
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Dorothy Ward; one daughter-in-law, Dianne Thuringer; three sisters-in-law: Carola Thuringer, Jean Horstman and Mary Thuringer; two brother-in-laws; Albin Roth and Stanley Vilhauer.
