Maurine Cahoy

Maurine Cahoy, 82, Mitchell, SD died Friday, December 28, 2018 at her home under the care of hospice.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, January 2, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery at Geddes, SD at a later date. Arrangements are with the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Maurine Rose Cahoy was born November 22, 1936 in Hartington, NE to Adolf and Loretta (Roth) Du Frain. On October 25, 1954 she married George Cahoy in Geddes, SD. They farmed until moving to Mitchell in 1978. Maurine worked as a nurse’s aide, managed the Senior and Elderly Nutrition Center. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, RSVP, James Valley Senior Center and the Classy Lassies Red Hat Group.

She is survived by two daughters: Cindy (Gene) Gaspar of Mitchell, Karen Cahoy of Pinetop, AZ, son, Charles (Bill Konigsberg) Cahoy of Chandler, AZ, three sisters: Dorothy Cahoy of Aberdeen, Marguarite Larsen and Lucille Dufek of Platte, five grandchildren: Eric, Maria, Jeremy, Samuel, Leon and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2007, two brothers: Don and Duane and nephew, Todd Cahoy.

I worked at Meadowlawn when Maurine headed the Nutrition program there. She worked so hard and was greatly admired. One Christmas she made several wonderful baked goods for the residents. I remember marvelous kolaches. When I complimented her delicious display, she replied that "You can do alot with a bag of flour." She was quite a lady.

I am sorry to read of Maurine's passing. She and George were wonderful neighbors at Lake Mitchell. I have missed them ever since they sold their home. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
