Janice Airhart, 78, Mitchell, SD died Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.
Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 18 at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Janice Eileen Airhart was born May 24, 1940 in Walker, MN to Homer and Dorothy (Sloan) Rodekuhr. She grew up in Walker graduating from Walker High School in 1958. She attended Bemidji State College and Moorhead State College in Minnesota where she earned her BA in Elementary Education in 1963. On September 2, 1961 she married Jon Airhart. They made their homes in Walker, Moorhead, Brooklyn Center, Edina and Fargo, ND. After teaching for twelve years they settled in Mitchell, SD where they owned and operated Fanny Horner’s Eating Establishment. Janice’s greatest joys were her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, bird watching and various church activities.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Jon, sons: Craig (Angie) Airhart and Chad (Julie) Airhart of Bozeman, MT, daughter, Meagan (Steve) Somerville of Mitchell, grandchildren: Madison Airhart, Sorren, Vaughn and Quincy Airhart, Walker and Brie Somerville, brothers: Robert (Judy) Rodekuhr of Simi Valley, CA, Darrel (Roy) Rodekuhr of Walker, MN, Greg (Jola) Rodekuhr of Denver, CO, and five nieces and nephews.
Welcoming her into heaven with open arms are her grandson, Charlie Airhart and her parents.
Janice (Mom, Grandma) has answered a call to be with the Lord and greet her family and friends awaiting her in Heaven. We envision them with open arms, full of anticipation to meet her at the gate and show her the pure bliss and true love that awaits.
As we grieve her sweet smile, sense of humor, wisdom, and love, we know she is filled with eternal joy in Heaven.
Janice's legacy lives on through all the people she touched and taught which will continue through generations.
