Mary E. Thuringer, 84, of Mitchell, formerly of Parkston, died Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Parkston. Visitation will be 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Mary Elizabeth Thuringer was born March 16, 1934 in Emery, SD to Elmer and Helen (Mullaney) Fahy. She grew up in Emery, where she attended elementary and high school. She was united in marriage to Norman Thuringer on October 27, 1953 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Emery. The couple lived on a farm near Parkston for 40 years. Mary worked at Raven Industries for 14 years in Parkston.
Mary was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Holy Spirit Altar Society, Town and Country CFEL Club, Quiltin’ Red Hats Club, Heartland Quilt Guild, and James Valley Community Center. She was an avid quilter, volunteering to quilt at the Senior Center and for many other groups. She loved to garden and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Norman Thuringer, Mitchell; children, Michael (Brenda) Thuringer, Sioux Falls, Sandie (Jim) Larsen, Lakewood, WA, and Bryan (Janet) Thuringer, Mitchell; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings Bob (Iris) Fahy, Fair Oaks Ranch, TX, Bill (Margie) Fahy, Brandon, SD, and Rita Wren, Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law, Lois Thuringer, Parkston, Betty Roth, Parkston, Marjo Vilhauer, Parkston, and Julie Fahy, Jacksonville, FL; and brothers-in-law, Jim Horstman, Mitchell, and Ralph Thuringer, Parkston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tom Fahy and Charlie Fahy; brothers-in-law, Tim Wren, Laverne Thuringer, Albin Roth, and Stanley Vilhauer; and sisters-in-law, Carola Thuringer and Jean Horstman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell.
