Maynard Friederich, 86, of Mitchell died, Thursday, July 19, 2018 at his home in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Maynard Leonard Friederich was born on January 16, 1932 to Emil P. and Bertha (Dewald) Friederich on a farm east of Tripp, SD. Maynard attended Weisz County School east of Tripp. As a young boy and teenager he helped his father on the farm and truck.
Maynard was drafted into the US Army. He served his country during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He married Charlotte Schmidt on June 23, 1957. Together they had a daughter, Susan (Friederich) Bialas.
The couple farmed west of Tripp for 34 years. During the winter months Maynard welded for Ziegler Trucking and other neighboring farmers. In 1989 Maynard retired from farming and moved to Mitchell, where he worked for Twin City Fans for 6 years. During his retirement he mowed during the summer months for the City of Mitchell Parks Department.
Maynard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling on his motorcycle with his wife, Charlotte. They attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally almost every year for 25 years and visited numerous other states on their motorcycle.
Maynard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte (Schmidt) Friederich; his daughter Susan (Kip) Bialas, Selby, SD; grandchildren, Brooke and Ryan Bialas; sisters Alice Goeken, Scotland, Phyllis Knittel, Freeman, Velda Sell, Lakeland, TN, and Margie (John) Stone, Wagner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Arnold (Florene) Friederich, Willard (Arlene) Friederich, and twin baby boy of Velda; brothers-in-law Charles Sell, Floyd Gueken, and Harold Knittel.
