Jacob “Jack” Sandness, 87, of Mitchell, died Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Firesteel Health Center in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Jacob “Jack” E. Sandness was born February 3, 1930 on a farm near Plankinton, SD, to Jacob and Ellen (Enockson) Sandness. He served in the US Army during the Korean War for two years and married Dorothy Arens prior to leaving for Korea. He worked many years in construction as a Plasterer and joined the City of Mitchell as a Firefighter for over 20 years. He retired with Dorothy and enjoyed many fishing trips including one to Alaska.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Mitchell, two daughters; Terry (Tim) Rieck of Howard Lake, MN, Kathy (Musa) Abuswai of Sioux Falls, five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
