Dale Hoffman


January 19, 1932 - July 11, 2017


Dale Hoffman, 85, of Plankinton, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Avera Queen of Peace surrounded by his family. Funeral mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 15, 2017 at St. John Catholic Church in Plankinton with a burial at St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7:00 PM Friday, July 14 at St. John Catholic Church with a 7:00 PM scripture service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Dale Hoffman was born on January 19, 1932 in Plankinton, SD to Martin and Caroline (Krell) Hoffman. Dale graduated from Plankinton. After graduation he started farming and was actively involved at the farm until the time of his death. 

Dale lived life to the fullest, known as the “Candy Man”, and always had a story to tell.

Thankful for sharing his life, the most important, his wife of 66 years Lenora (Larson) Hoffman; his adored children  David (Corinne) Hoffman, Mitchell, Larry (Peggy) Hoffman, Plankinton, Terry “Toot” (Cindy) Hoffman, Plankinton, and Mary Hoffman, Sioux Falls; lighting up his life were his 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and one in heaven, Jayce Priebe; brothers Red (Ida) Hoffman, Plankinton and Bob (Kristi) Hoffman, Watertown; and sister, Janet Vlasman, Madison.

He is preceded in death by two brothers Lawrence “Ozzie” and Alvin Hoffman.

Dale lived a wonderful life and thank you to all who made it so.

Dale always made me feel like part of the family and was never afraid to tease me on my "blonde moments" . I will always remember him as a guy that was quick to smile and laugh, or let you know when to shape up. I will always be thankful for the chance to know Dale.. Leonora and family you are all in my thoughts and prayers.. Hang onto the memories and know he is now at peace and watching over you, always.

Spent many a great time on the Hoffman farm with Mary. Dale & Nornie were always so good to all of us and they raised some wonderful kids. So sorry for your loss.
